The most impressive visual actually remains the same and that is the destruction engine and watching your car get destroyed, the wheels fall off or just slowly fall to pieces. This is not a game to show off the power of your PS5 but don’t get me wrong the cars and tracks look awesome.
#Wreckfest ps5 review Ps4
Graphically Wreckfest does look better on PS5 compared to its PS4 counterpart as the 4K image definitely looks sharper and some lighting and shadows had a noticeable difference. The AI can occasionally get stuck in the environment especially in demolition mode and doesn’t reset itself which isn’t really a problem as it doesn’t affect you and the haptic feedback is decent but I wouldn’t call it consistent but it does feel great. Performance wise we get 60 FPS and that is a big difference from the PS4 version as that was running 30 FPS so that was very noticeable. It puts enough behind the level unlocks to entice you but it’s never too aggressive with it. There is an XP system on the main menu that allows you to unlock certain cars that require you to be a certain level.

The developers have been great at supporting the Wreckfest community and they add content regularly. Overall, the challenge is great across career and it has various modes that you can quick play and online is a blast as well. The cars in Wreckfest feel good and the races are fast and varied and there’s just an incredible level of satisfaction in taking out an opponent which most races don’t feature. It’s actually in depth and I didn’t expect it to be this big as it’s got things like the breakdown of weight, gears and power behind each vehicle and there is a lot you can upgrade. Every event requires a specific class of vehicle so they’ll typically give you one to start with but you can actually unlock and purchase new ones from the in-game garage. All the vehicles in Wreckfest handled differently from cars, to trucks, to vans, to lawnmowers and sofas. It’s just addictive because you’re getting awarded fame points and this can be spent on things like new cars and you are competing to move up the leaderboards. Tournament mode in Wreckfest is essentially an online competitive mode with leaderboards and you are going to find daily challenges, weekly challenges and even season specific challenges and at the moment Wreckfest finds itself on season 11.
#Wreckfest ps5 review upgrade
Multiplayer is where we find our first PS5 upgrade and the online races have been increased from 16 to 24 racers meaning it just kind of builds upon the chaos which is amazing. You can pick either a mixed event type, special vehicles only, racing or demolition derby. Multiplayer is online only and you can jump into a quick match or choose an event type based on the vehicle or competition type. All the game wants you to do is have fun, break the rules and earn points and glory. It never once takes itself seriously and it’s all the better for it. It’s just a blast with a consistent variety of event types and just weird and wonderful events like racing a lawnmower and even racing sofas. You will go through 5 different classes and this is where the game shows all of its cards.

You start with Regional Juniors and go all the way up to World Masters. These objectives are important as well because to progress your career you need to earn points to unlock the next option. It really kind of layers on all the things you need to do and I really liked the objectives though because it frequently changed up how I needed to play from being super aggressive to simply being as quick as possible. These objectives might be spin out three opponents during 1 race while also causing X amount of damage and you have to finish first as well. It’s quick race mode basically under a different name where you can choose options as you see fit.Ĭareer mode is a decent size and you can probably unlock everything in around 8 hours but it’s going to take you a while to clear all objectives. Everything from straight races to last car standing to even a spin on team deathmatch. Custom event is where you choose a track, a car, a difficulty and an event type that will fit the track you’ve selected. Wreckfest will give you four options and those are Career, Custom Event, Multiplayer and Tournament.
